The goal of The Alternative Therapy Program is to provide treatment options for people with cancer. Our
aim is to answer the complex questions about treatment alternatives. What therapy might be best? What approach
might offer the best chances for survival and quality of life?
We feel it is important to understand all options from conventional cancer treatment to alternative treatment
to new and innovative forms of treatment in order for people to make truly informed decisions about treatment.
We believe people with cancer have very fundamental rights -- the right to know and the right to choose.
We provide information about cancer treatment options. We have developed the International Physicians Network (IPN)
to review patient records and provide recommendations for treatment options. Only physicians and researchers who
have provided People Against Cancer with valid data about their treatments and results have been included
in the International Physicians Network (IPN). Through the Network, we put all vital medical records from
people with cancer directly into the hands of physicians and researchers in the United States and throughout the
world for their recommendations. Additionally, we offer a wide range of educational materials including books,
journal articles, audio and video tapes on a wide range of issues of interest to people with cancer. To our
knowledge, People Against Cancer is the only organization in the world providing such a program.
There are 4 simple steps in The Alternative Therapy Program:
To access The Alternative Therapy Program, we ask that individuals first Join
People Against Cancer as Sustaining Members. The sole purpose of
joining People Against Cancer is support The Alternative Therapy Program and provide members with
current and relevent cancer information. After joining, we ask that individuals then fill out a copy of our Medical History
Questionnaire and provide us with photocopies of all medical records from the time of diagnosis to the present.
You will also need our Medical Records Release Form to send to your physicians so the
records can be sent to People Against Cancer. All information will be kept private and used for the sole
purpose of finding the person with cancer the best treatment options.
The Medical History Questionnaire and select medical
records are then faxed by People Against Cancer to select physicians and researchers in People Against
Cancer's International Physicians Network (IPN). Those that feel they can help will respond and provide their
recommendations to People Against Cancer.
After five working days, a personalized written report based on the recommendations received by physicians in the
International Physicians Network will be prepared by People Against Cancer and sent to the person
with cancer via priority mail.
Then we ask the person with cancer to call People Against Cancer at 515-972-4444 and schedule an appointment
for a telephone consultation to discuss further the details of the personalized report and to ask questions they may
have.
People Against Cancer is not financially affiliated with any specific physician or clinic. We do not receive
referral fees from anyone treating cancer. We are completely independent and act as the advocate of people with
cancer. We have, however, developed this program, The Alternative Therapy Program, through which we seek
funding to scientifically evaluate promising alternative therapies. We do not diagnose, prescribe or make treatment
recommendations -- we provide options. We educate people with cancer with unbiased information in order to
direct them toward making informed choices.
Throughout The Alternative Therapy Program it is the choice of the person with cancer on whether or not he
or she wishes to involve his or her physician with the process. Although People Against Cancer does not require
that the person with cancer consults his or her physician before going through The Alternative Therapy Program,
it is the recommendation of People Against Cancer that the person with cancer involves his or her physician
or another knowledgeable person in order that personal support may be provided throughout the whole process and in order
to allow the person with cancer to feel an ease of mind knowing that someone else was part of the process and will be
able to help him or her with using the knowledge they gained from The Alternative Therapy Program in the most
beneficial way.
The cost of Sustaining Membership is $450 USD. This helps us to cover the
significant costs of operating The Alternative Therapy Program. In addition to our Alternative Therapy
Program, which includes the detailed written report and follow-up consultation, Sustaining
Members will receive continued access for questions, a one year subscription to our newsletter entitled,
Options: Revolutionary Ideas in the War on Cancer, our complete 47 page catalog,
and the book, Repression and Reform. We also offer several levels of Membership
in addition to the Sustaining Membership, beginning with our Regular
Annual Membership at $35 USD.
